The Thames Gateway is a massive project that will transform the areas north and south of the mouth of the Thames. And that has excellent implications for homes in the region, finds Anna Bowden.
Regeneration is a word on everyone’s lips at the moment – due to both increasing emphasis on the environment and the ongoing shortage of housing for today’s home buyers. The Thames Gateway is one of London’s biggest regeneration projects – extending from Tower Bridge eastwards to Thurrock and Dartford, the area has a powerful strategic location that offers outstanding development opportunities for new jobs and homes, as well as environmental improvements, and the London authorities are making the most of it.
The project hopes to provide 91,000 new homes over the coming years, built by new home developers that can see the potential for the area. One great example is Alta Vista in Woolwich, marketed by Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward (KFH); a ten-storey collection of 224 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments converted from previous commercial space. The development offers stunning views across the Thames towards the Dome and Canary Wharf and boasts an impressive foyer with a daytime concierge, 24-hour CCTV and lifts serving all floors. Parking is also provided for each apartment and is linked to the building by a sixth-floor walkway that allows residents to access their cars without having to step outside.
The homes on the upper floors have been designed to offer the utmost in style, luxury and specification; fully fitted maple kitchens boast granite work surfaces and a comprehensive range of Siemens integrated appliances. In addition, bathrooms incorporate Philippe Starck fittings, thermostatic showers and marble plinth with fully tiled walls.
When complete in 2008, the extension to the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) will connect Woolwich with the Jubilee and East London Lines, as well as offering residents direct access to London City Airport, the City and Canary Wharf. Currently Woolwich mainline station offers services into Cannon Street, Charing Cross and London Bridge stations.
Properties now available at Alta Vista include apartments, duplexes and penthouses on the eighth, ninth and tenth floors, and are priced from £165,000. For more information call KFH on 020 8855 8188.
Also in Woolwich, Berkeley Homes is now selling Reflection, a new build riverside development designed to meet the ever-increasing demand for waterside property. Reflection not only offers a stunning Thames-side location, but is built around a centralised lagoon, the scheme’s centrepiece. Davina Grayson, marketing manager for Berkeley Homes (East Thames), says, ‘Water is very much the theme here at Reflection. Not only is the scheme within metres of the River Thames, but the complex also features a centralised lagoon. This means that residents will be surrounded by water, offering a wonderfully therapeutic outlook.’
The development is a scheme of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and penthouses set over seven floors and in 47 different designs; although the properties all feature the same use of space and light, with extensive glazing and steel and glass balconies. All ground floor apartments will boast a patio or access to a large timber boardwalk.
All homes at Reflection are high specification, with stylish and contemporary fittings. Kitchens are designed by Cuisine Schmidt and have granite worktops, and bathrooms boast Villeroy & Boch suites.
Remaining apartments in the current phase comprise one one-bedroom apartment at £210,000, eight two bedrooms starting at £255,000 and one three-bedroom apartment priced at £375,000. To find out more call 020 8331 7272.
