New Homes - Sussex surprises

 Friday, April 07, 2006
With lush countryside, access to the sea, good commuting and beautiful homes, Sussex is the jewel of the South East. Johnny Turner takes a tour of the local new homes market.

Sussex is blessed with a wonderful combination of natural beauty and 21st-century convenience. It’s no wonder buyers are making a beeline for the newly built homes springing up in East and West Sussex’s leafy villages, market towns and coastal locations.

Starting in Eastbourne, where a renaissance is under way, Sunnymead is a luxury development by Fivewalk Homes in the highly sought-after residential area of Meads. The development offers individually crafted two-, three- and four-bedroom apartments, including both new build and converted homes. Here traditional architecture mixes with modern design, fine detailing and an abundance of space and light.

Sunnymead’s four-storey building comprises six contemporary style apartments and one penthouse, all of which offer strong attention to detail. Aside from generously proportioned rooms and views as far as the eye can see, each apartment is distinguishable by exclusive one-off kitchen designs, careful finishes, superior fixtures and fittings and luxurious granite worktops. Door framing is impeccable and tiling is of the highest quality.

The penthouse, a duplex apartment set on the third and fourth floors, has direct elevator entry into a private lobby and two perfectly placed balconies for spectacular downland views. The extensive space, designer kitchen and spiral staircase to a spare library or games room, makes this penthouse one to be seen.

Nearby is Royal Eastbourne’s 18-hole golf course and there is complimentary entry into the neighbouring Brighton University health and leisure centre and golf course. The beach is only half a mile away, and local facilities, shops and the town centre are nearby.
The luxury Sunnymead apartments are now available for viewing but only ten remain, priced from £299,950 to £695,000. And Fivewalk Homes is now offering all the designer showroom furniture in the penthouse absolutely free. Call 01323 416897 for further information.

In response to the current shortage of detached homes, Rydon Homes is creating Fairborough Lawns, a small yet spacious development in Folders Lane, Burgess Hill. The development offers a superb collection of three-, four- and five-bedroom family homes within commuting distance of the City and not far from the coast – a wonderful combination for those planning to expand their family.

The development is approached via a block-paved driveway, and these classically proportioned homes each feature traditional craftsmanship and interiors designed for today’s contemporary lifestyles. Some of the homes benefit from views to the South Downs over the surrounding countryside. The homes have been carefully designed with spacious layouts and a high level of specification.
Trains from Burgess Hill station offer services to London Bridge in under an hour, or to Gatwick Airport in 25 minutes. The A23 is just minutes away, with its easy access north to the M23 and M25 or south to the coast.

Prices range from £449,950 for a four-bedroom home to £769,950 for a five-bedroom home. Contact the sales and marketing suite on 01444 258130or selling agents Mansell McTaggart on 01444 235665. Visit rydonhomes.co.uk.

Redrow Homes has recently launched its fourth phase of apartments apartments in the Orvis building at the striking apartment venture, The Boardwalk. The scheme, located in Sovereign Harbour, is a hit with a range of buyers from professional couples to those in search of a holiday home.
There are three penthouse apartments atop Orvis, one of which is a spectacular three-bedroom duplex. It features two fabulous sun terraces which offer glorious views of the sea and will be a great platform from which to see the sun rise, shine and set.
The most prestigious penthouse has a £750,000 price tag and comes with a wealth of space on two floors and absolutely top-level specification – not to mention the two-storey sun terrace with spiral staircase.

The two other penthouse apartments available offer equally fabulous living, but on one level, with three double bedrooms and a spacious living/dining room that leads out onto a personal balcony with stunning sea views. These are priced at £650,000 and £700,000.
Other homes on release include a range of one- and two-bedroom apartments, with prices starting from just £179,000 for a one-bedroom apartment and from £230,000 for a two-bedroom apartment. Three exceptional show apartments are open daily from 10am to 5.30pm. Call the sales team on 01323 472194.

More rooms with a view can be found in the pretty village of Bury. The Norchester Partnership offers Bury House, a carefully restored and converted Grade II listed property once owned by the celebrated novelist, playwright and poet John Galsworthy. Within this beautiful building stunning apartments have been created, and two new stable cottages have also been built.
The views to the South Downs are spectacular. The development, located just off the A29, is approximately five miles south of Pulborough. Arundel is a similar distance to the south and Chichester is about 12 miles away. For travel to London, Pulborough’s mainline station provides a frequent service with a journey time of approximately 70 minutes.

Two-bedroom apartments at Bury House are priced at £370,000 and three-bedroom cottages are priced at £399,950. Contact The Norchester Partnership on 01243 543085 or joint selling agents Cluttons on 01798 872432 or Henry Adams on 01798 872432. You may also visit norchester.co.uk.
