The quality of life in the towns to the west of London is drawing more buyers every year. Johnny Turner finds out why.

Middlesex contains some of today’s most popular buying destinations, from Thames-side Teddington and Isleworth to the leafy, suburban bliss of Northwood and Pinner. Well-connected, reasonably priced and genteel, this part of the South East is well worth a look.

Beginning our tour in Hampton, only one apartment remains in CDC2020’s Hampton 55 development of two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments. As an incentive to the lucky buyer, the developer is offering some attractive incentives, such as purchase costs covered and a valuable furniture package thrown in. The apartment is fully carpeted and has its own parking bay. One of the best things about this home is that it is ready to move into – so Christmas in a stylish new home is within the realm of possibility.
Hampton is a very sought-after area, with beautiful open parkland and lovely homes. Convenience is another plus: with Fulwell train station just a short walk from the development, London commuters will find travelling into the capital an easy proposition. Hampton Court, with its riverside lifestyle and good shopping, is an easy drive away.

Another Hampton development worth investigating is Try Homes’ Park View. As the name suggests, this collection of two-bedroom apartments and duplexes and three-bedroom apartments boasts an enviable location adjoining beautiful 1,000-acre Bushy Park. The parkside aspect is augmented by the fresh, innovative architectural elevations, which in turn are complemented by the stylish interiors. Some apartments boast terraces and balconies, while all have allocated parking within this gated development.

The Hampton Hill location means residents are well connected by both road and rail. Kingston is approximately four miles away; major roads and motorways, including the A3, M3, M4 and M25 are all easily accessible. For rail travellers, Fulwell station is only a ten-minute walk away.
Prices at Park View currently range from £209,950 to £324,500. For further information contact 020 8943 4385.
The remaining apartment is priced at just £299,950. Call 202 8977 8853 or visit cdc2020.com.

In Isleworth, Rushmon Homes is offering another last-chance situation for buyers with the well-designed town houses at its Abbey Mews development in London Road. Each home has three bedrooms (one with en suite facilities), as well as a cloakroom and integral garage. Living space includes a dining area to the kitchen, as well as a first-floor living room.
Only two of these mews-style town houses remain for sale, each priced at £430,950. Abbey Mews also includes six apartments, all of which have been snapped up. The development is set behind gates for good security and it also borders the wonderful 200-acre Syon Park. This is a fantastic location for families, away from the hustle and bustle of London yet only 40 minutes from Waterloo station by train. There are also good schools and plenty of activities nearby for all ages.
For more information on the final homes at Abbey Mews call 020 8847 2847 or visit rushmonhomes.co.uk.

Also in Isleworth, Linden Homes has launched its modern development Mode, which will comprise stunning three-bedroom houses and two-bedroom apartments. The diversity and quality of Mode will draw all buyer types, from first-timers and professionals to investors, growing families and downsizers.
Helen Todd, sales and marketing director of Linden Homes Chilterns, says, ‘We’re extremely excited to be launching Mode. We expect the development to be very popular with a large number of interested parties already registered with us.

‘Mode offers a highly specified collection of homes in a fantastic location, close to central London and major road and rail links. Buying off-plan means purchasers can be involved in the specification of their home. For example, you can choose the carpets and floorings or upgrade the appliances to suit your own requirements.’
All homes at Mode have fully fitted designer kitchens from Symphony with De Dietrich appliances and ceramic floor tiles. Bathrooms and en suites will provide the ultimate place to relax with pristine white sanitaryware and chrome finishes.
Picturesque Isleworth is a riverside location with a host of fantastic shops, restaurants and leisure attractions – and as Richmond, Kingston and London are on the doorstep, the leisure and retail options are endless.

Many who have raised families in London locations such as Finchley, Hendon and Wembley are moving to the outskirts of the capital, to various locations in the county of Middlesex. Banner Homes is aware of this trend and is currently providing high-quality new homes at Marsh Point in Pinner and Argent House in Hatch End.
In these developments, purchasers can find all the convenience of more central London locations but with considerably more breathing space. At both Marsh Point and Argent House residents can walk to the tube or train station within minutes, yet are still able to enjoy a round of golf at a nearby golf course. Both developments are located in highly desirable streets in elegant surroundings.
Those who are downsizing needn’t worry that they’re giving up internal space or spec for more wide open surroundings, either. The accommodation is generous at these Banner developments, and the specification and finish of the properties is superb.
Marsh Point is a quality development of 18 two-bedroom apartments located in a leafy part of Pinner. The homes feature balconies or patios to the living/dining areas, en suite bathrooms to the master bedroom and plenty of essential storage space in the wardrobes and dressing areas. Each has private parking and enjoys a picturesque setting within established communal gardens.
Marsh Point offers privacy and luxury, as well as proximity to the exclusive Pinner Hill Golf Club nearby. Pinner High Street, arguably the most attractive and historic village on the outskirts of London, is just a short walk away. The setting is superb, the homes a cut above. The homes at Marsh Point are ready for occupation.
Prices range from £339,000 to £475,000. Contact the sales office between 10am and 5pm daily on 020 8966 9129.

Rail journey times from Hatch End are approximately 37 minutes to London Euston and seven minutes to Watford mainline station, while the tube network can be accessed from Pinner and Harrow and Wealdstone stations. Convenient access to the M25 will please car commuters.
Prices at Argent House start from £375,000, and Banner Homes is currently offering five per cent paid on selected plots. Call the marketing suite, open Thursdays to Mondays 10am to 5pm, on 020 8421 4691.

Finally, the Kings Gate development in Harrow-on-the-Hill has recently been launched. The scheme, by Macleod & Fairbriar, is still very much in the early stages of development, but is already creating a stir among those seeking a quality home.
The conversion of a fine Georgian listed coaching inn and its Victorian neighbour will provide 33 homes arranged in an attractive courtyard setting. There will be one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, as well as three- and four/five-bedroom three-storey town houses in the epicentre of this elite village.
The development’s location allows for spectacular views from the hill and offers the chance to live in highly elegant buildings which boast both leafy surroundings and very convenient commuting distance to London.
‘Kings Gate is the ultimate new address because it offers all the charm and character of period buildings, married with the latest building skills, energy efficiency and added “extra benefits” that only a new home can provide,’ explains Julian Macleod of Macleod and Fairbriar. ‘It would be hard to find somewhere else as appealing that offers sleek, contemporary accommodation within a historic building, yet within a tube and mainline train ride of central London. Judging by the comments arising from the open day, potential buyers certainly agree.’
Prices at Kings Gate start at £325,000. Full details are available from the marketing suite on 020 8423 6727 or from selling agent Stephen J Woodward on 020 8864 8844. You can also find out more online by visiting kingsgate.uk.com.

A diverse mix of rural delights and cosmopolitan chic, Middlesex and north London are proving to be a tempting proposition for today’s purchasers. Anna Bowden looks at the developments making their mark.

Middlesex is a county known for many things, among them cricket, charm, industry and suburban ease. Stretching from the River Thames, west of London at Teddington, to directly north of the capital at Enfield, you will find all sorts of environments within the borders, with a multitude of benefits to the home buyer. Enfield is a lovely location steeped in Victorian charm and it is also a very modern, highly convenient place to live. With its varied mix of shopping possibilities, famously good schools, great transport connections and thousands of acres of green space, it is easy to see why it’s such a sought-after residential area.

North London too has really taken off in the past 15 or so years. For house hunters looking to buy in the area the types of properties and settings are overwhelming. From family homes in the suburbs to swanky apartments in the hub of trendy ‘cappuccino land’, buyers looking for a brand new home never had it so good. The gentrification of Islington started back in the mid-1980s when the chardonnay-swilling set would pose outside one of the many coffee shops. Although the area is dominated by Georgian and Victorian architecture, the demand to live there has led to an influx of new build that can display the necessary ‘wow’ factor to complement the surroundings. There are several excellent developments in both north London and Middlesex.

Fairclough Homes is now offering Viceroy Court in Northwood, a lovely development of 16 spacious one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and eight four-bedroom town houses priced from £250,000. All apartments come with a parking space and the town houses have their own private garage.
All homes at Viceroy Court are high specification, with en suites to the master bedrooms, fully fitted bathrooms and kitchens and, in the town houses, separate living and dining rooms. Prices for the town houses, which range in size from 2,107 to 2,249 sq ft, start from £660,000. For further information call 0845 676 0164.
Laing Homes North Thames has now released a new phase of homes plus a show home at its Brockley Park development in Stanmore, Middlesex, following the success of its off-plan releases. Brockley Park is located within one of Stanmore’s more exclusive areas, with far reaching views over green belt countryside and six acres of adjacent open space, which is being landscaped by Laing with a pond and will soon be handed over for general public enjoyment.

Homes at Brockley Park are being built in a wide range of detached house types and have all been designed to offer maximum use of living space as well as to fit in with the local vernacular. The new show home is an example of the four-bedroom Heather house type; this comes with two extra rooms and an integral garage.
Buyers at Brockley Park can choose to upgrade the specification of their new home to include state-of-the-art extras such as integrated audio systems, with ceiling speaker, wall control panels and security cameras. However, all kitchens come fully fitted with Siemens or Bosch appliances, granite worktops and pre-wiring for the latest communications and home cinema systems.
Prices at Brockley Park start from £615,000 for a four-bedroom detached Bergamot house type with bonus room and rise to £1.1million for a six-bedroom Fern house type. To find out more call 0870 240 4563 or visit laing-homes.co.uk.

Edgware itself is a thriving community boasting an excellent range of local amenities, including The Broadwalk shopping centre, home of many high street chains. Brent Cross shopping centre is also close by and the area benefits from a vast array of excellent restaurants, offering everything from Middle Eastern to Mediterranean cuisine.
Transport-wise the area is very well connected by underground, bus and motorway links. The nearby A5 connects to the City, the A41 to the M1 and Canons Park station is on the Jubilee Line.

Middlesex is the Home County that wears the trousers, says Anna Bowden.

Middlesex has a great many draws – a reputation for good schools plus all the attractions of London while boasting property at a fraction of the price – but it is probably the balance between city and country living that makes it most attractive to house buyers. Offering a diverse mix of rural delights and cosmopolitan chic, plus some excellent and convenient transport options, Middlesex is proving to be a tempting proposition for today’s purchasers.

The first phase of homes at Chantry Park, Barratt’s new development on the old Hillingdon Hospital site is now almost half sold, months ahead of the building programme, and a second phase has already been released, supported by the opening of two fully-furnished show homes. The development, which will eventually comprise 120 high-specification apartments and houses, is being built on 6.5 acres of land acquired after becoming surplus to NHS requirements.

Especially popular at Chantry Park is Barratt’s Home Exchange service, which enables buyers to trade in existing properties at full value and side-step the usual problems involved in selling a home. First-time buyers too have are being offered a good deal, with contributions towards stamp duty and a deposit.
All homes at Chantry Park include fully fitted bathrooms and kitchens with integrated appliances, as well as central heating and double glazing. Private parking is provided throughout. Prices start from £179,995 for a one-bedroom apartment, £209,995 for a two-bedroom two-bathroom apartment, and £315,000 for a three-bedroom house. For further details call the sales office, open Thursdays to Sundays from 10am to 6pm and on Mondays from 2pm to 6pm, on 01895 272096.

Barratt is seeing success with another Middlesex development, this time in Stonegrove, Edgware. Regency Court, a collection of one- and two-bedroom apartments, is already two-thirds sold. Barratt North London sales director Michael O’Leary says, ’In a residential setting, close to all the amenities, with a choice of stations and a journey time into London of under 40 minutes, you couldn’t find a better location. Visitors are excited by what we have to offer and the development is becoming very popular.’
Served by impressive electronic gates, an entryphone system and a lift to all floors, these contemporary apartments are presented with designer kitchens, fully fitted with granite worktops and integrated stainless steel appliances. Master bedrooms have en suite power showers and all apartments have modern programmable central heating and double glazing. Outside, there is private parking and landscaped communal gardens. Prices at Regency Court start from £217,000 for one-bedroom apartments and £297,000 for two bedrooms. For further details call 020 8958 6136.

Weston Homes achieved 80 per cent of sales in just 24 hours at its Southern Place development in the desirable Sudbury Hill area of the county. Bob Weston, managing director of Weston Homes, comments, ‘The outstanding success that we have had at Southern Place demonstrates the high quality of the properties that Weston Homes is building, and its ability to redevelop brownfield sites in prime locations.’

Barratt Southern Counties managing director Trevor Sawyer says, ‘Windmill Gate offers tremendous value for the London area and is already proving immensely popular with first-time buyers. These are incredibly attractive homes in a very convenient and desirable location.

‘What’s more, our development recycles ex-industrial land which was considered something of an eyesore locally. In fact, it is a classic example of the sort of site the Government has said it wants to see recycled. In this way its regeneration is generally having a positive effect on local values.’
Windmill Gate stands in its own landscaped grounds and is accessed through impressive electronically-controlled entrance gates. Boasting a stylish central garden square, a children’s play area and new public open space, Windmill Gate is transforming run-down industrial land into a smart new community. Middlesex is an area that probably best sums up the ‘new suburbia’. Fashionable restaurants and bars feature throughout and for those with a passion for shopping, the area offers dozens of great boutiques and indoor malls.

But it is probably the balance between city and country living which attracts most house buyers, as is the case with the Stanmore Park development. Laing Homes is the company building the majority of the 411 homes at the former RAF base where a wide selection of property is available. The five-bedroom show home is soon to open and will feature versatile living space over three floors with a studio over the detache
