Side is situated on the Mediterranean coast 75 km from one of Turkey’s largest cities, Antalya. This unique seaside resort lies on a small peninsula flanked by two stretches of golden beach. Theb old city prospered under the Roman Empire and the old town now retains many of its old features.

Travelling into the town you cannot miss the remains of the Roman aqua-duct, which carried water from the mountains to the town. Full of archaeological wonders: The Amphitheatre, with beautiful views towards the sea, dates back to Hellenistic period and is one of the largest in Turkey; the Roman Temples of Apollo and Artemis; the marketplace; the City Gates; the Roman baths - all surrounded on the Peninsula by the deep, blue waters of the Mediterranean. At certain points along the main street that runs through the centre and down to the quaint fishing harbour, you can look between the buildings and streets and see the sea on all sides. One of the most enjoyable experiences is walking through these ruins at night when all are illuminated.

Side has become extremely popular with European and Turkish holidaymakers alike. It has managed to retain its ‘quaintness’ and authenticity and is a jumble of old and new, with an extensive range of tourist accommodation, shops, late-night bars and restaurants mixed in among the ruins of the ancient city. Due to its abundance of archaeological treasures, all the traditional houses in the old part of Side are of a certain style – pretty, two-storey stone buildings with varnished, wooden balconies all along a labyrinth of narrow, winding alleyways.

Drive West to Antalya and find the ruins of two ancient cities - Perge (30 mins drive) and Aspendos (20 mins drive). To the East, a 10 min drive to Manavgat reveals beautiful lakes, dam, river and waterfalls.

The abundance of water from the mountains in this region is reflected in the lush vegetation in this whole area. Banana, olive and lemon groves are plentiful as are fields of vegetables. This is an arable landscape on the edge of a 150 km stretch of golden coastline.

Evrenkoy is a village used as a model in tourism for its traditional village houses. It sits at the bottom of the Taurus mountains and has easy access to the main dual carriageway with direct access to the international airport of Antalya just 45 minutes away. Charter flights now run all year round to Antalya.

DAY ACTIVITIES
White water rafting, all watersports, football, volleyball, paragliding, golf, cycling, go-kart, quad bikes, jeep safari, skiing (Winter), archaeological site visits, boat trips, shopping.

LIVING IN TURKEY
